FN Mauser Model 1950 Short Rifle
Very interesting Model 1950 Mauser Short Rifle, produced by the Fabrique Nationale D'Armes De Guerre at Herstal, in Belgium.
The 1950 is the only military FN Mauser ever built that was factory chambered for the 30/06 cartridge, as all other military Mauser's in 30/06 were converted to that caliber.
The rifle is in good looking condition and belongs to the FN post war Belgian Model 1930 rifles in .30/06 that were reworked by the Fabrique Nationale between 1950 and 1952, according to a government refurbishment program, destined to Belgian Military use. The crest were scrubbed because no monarchs still governed at that time and the rifles were re-painted with black lacquer.
The rear face of the receiver ring was notched to provide clearance for stripper clip loading the longer 30/06 rounds.
Serial numbers of the rifle match bolt, stock, barrel and receiver.
Handsome hardwood stock and handguard, sound and quite nice looking.
Metal finish is a full blue black with correct brite bolt.
Built in caliber 30-06 Springfield, the bore is brite and excellent, like new, so very great for shooters.
Due to the limited numbers produced, and to the original 30/06 caliber, this rifle is beginning to increase its value.
On the left side of the receiver are written the name of the German firearms importer "Hege" (Hege Jagd Sportwaffen GmbH Co), the Liegi House Proof marking, 30-06, FAB.NAT. D'ARMES de GUERRE - HERSTAL BELGIQUE.
On the right side the serial number.
On the top of the chamber ring is imprinted the number 1598, probably a number attributed to the rifle by some unit or army.
