Brazilian Mauser DWM Model 1908, 7x57 caliber.

The 1908 is a highly regarded rifle made by DWM (Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken of Berlin) for South American governments. The Brazilian government received a batch of 450,000 of these rifles.

Based on the Gewehr '98 design but chambered for the 7x57 mm cartridge, the Brazilian 1908 is easily identified by the beautiful crest of the First Republic (República Velha). This crest, with the inscription "Estados Unidos do Brazil - 15 de Novembro de 1889," is located on the cartridge chamber. The right side of the chamber is marked "Mod. 1908," while the left side shows German proof marks, the "B" stamp, the serial number, inspection marks, and, on two lines, the manufacturer's name: "Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken - Berlin."

This rifle has matching serial numbers on all its parts. The complete serial number is stamped on the bolt and trigger guard, while the last two digits appear on the magazine floor plate, stock, safety lever, and bolt sleeve.

The stock is made of high-quality European walnut with a central reinforcing pin and a half-pistol grip. It features a standard flat metal buttplate and a circular mark with the letter "B" on the underside, behind the trigger guard. The wood is intact, very well-preserved, and has the classic Brazilian cartouche (military marking) on the right side.

An inspection mark, a "B" inside a circle, is also present on the rifle. DWM used this mark on rifles exported between 1907 and 1911. It can be found on the receiver (near the serial number), bolt, barrel, and stock.

The tangent rear sight is adjustable from 300 to 2000 meters.

The barrel is 29 1/2 inches (750 mm) long, has excellent rifling, and is suitable for shooting competitions.

The rifle comes with its original cleaning rod, which is 40 cm long including the threaded part.

All metal surfaces of the receiver and bolt are polished steel, while the barrel, barrel bands, magazine box, and sling swivels are blued.

Along with the rifle, there is a beautiful bayonet marked "Weyersberg Kirschbaum & C/ie Solingen," a leather sling, and a muzzle and front sight protector.
